Welcome Fall 2017

It's the end of October and I am just now getting around to posting a fall tour of my decor!. As they say, better late than never right? Is it just me or do you feel like life is moving faster than ever? I've been saying that for years now hoping it would eventually slow down but evidently that was wishful thinking on my part.

I hope you're all having an enjoyable fall season this year and accomplishing many of the items on your to-do list as well as your fun list! We are taking a day trip tomorrow to Elephant Rocks State Park in Missouri. I'm pretty sure we are at peak for fall foliage and the views from this particular park should be breathtaking. After that we're headed to my in-laws house to work on the reclaimed wood table my father-in law is making for our formal dining room. I'm so excited for this project to get underway!

Okay, so let's get started with this tour! I started out with a very neutral color palette for my fall decor this year including white and off-white pumpkins, gray pillows etc., but I wasn't feeling satisfied with only neutral decor for this anything but neutral season! I decided to dig around in the basement and see what I could come up with. Shopping your own home can be very rewarding and challenging all at the same time. Mixing old pieces with your new things and reintroducing vibrant colors when you haven't been using them for several years might make you a little nervous however until you get everything out and start playing around with it, you just never know what you can mix and match and bring back to life! One magical piece or a couple of pillows can really inspire a whole new look for you! So here we go, let's take a look around the house, outside and inside! Hope you enjoy!

Welcome to Fall 2017 Home Tour

We were fortunate to finally receive some much needed rainfall and the grass had just begun to turn green again when I snapped this picture. The front porch was a lot of fun to decorate but I may have gone a little overboard!

Our vibrant blue pots are so much fun to mix with the orange pumpkins for the front porch decor. Blue and orange are complimentary colors and can really bring life to a rather boring space. I love mixing those colors when given the opportunity. Most of the pumpkins with the exception of a couple of the larger ones, were all grown in our garden. We had an abundance of tiny, mixed variety gourds also grown in the garden and I've added those to the hay bales with the mums.

Happy Harvest! I had to have that adorable sign purchased at a local farm store here in our town.

The family room came to life once I found the bright blue and burnt red pillows in our basement. I've had them for several years but I must have grown tired of them and decided to retire them. Well guess what, they're back! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about bringing them back out but once I did, I found a whole new love for them! lol Crate and Barrel sofa sold HERE.

We've been chilly enough to have the fireplace on and I am loving it! If I can't be outside warmed by the sun, the next best thing is to be inside and sitting cozy right here in front of this fire! So here are those beautiful pillows up close. I've had them for so long I don't even remember where they came from. In fact, I remember purchasing them for fall decor when we had our first Thanksgiving in this house and that was about 7 years ago! See, time really does fly! We moved in December of 2009 and our first Thanksgiving was November of 2010! Wow! That was a fast 8 years for sure! --  Similar Jute Rug HERE. Similar tufted ottoman sold HERE

The basket, gorgeous pillow and large, pale orange pumpkin were also found at Home Goods. The smaller pumpkins were purchased from Hobby Lobby.

At one point I had the hydrangeas here on the hearth but then I moved a tall, white lantern here and since then I've switched it up one last time to yet another item I found stored away in our basement. I'll share that in just a minute but hey, this post is getting rather long! I had so much fun with the camera and all these beautiful colors, I simply didn't know where to draw the line! I hope you're hanging in there!

The built-ins were decorated completely neutral in September but have since jumped on the bandwagon with pops of color. The velvet pumpkins are going strong again this year and since I failed to purchase any last year, I finally found a few that were the most perfect colors for my home. I found mine at Marshall's and Home Goods. This wicker basket was purchased at Target last summer 2016. The deer is a favorite of mine and it actually has sparkle on it that is not visible in this photo. He was found at a local boutique here in town. The tall, off-white fabric pumpkins were found at Home Goods and I'm thinking they had an abundance of them because I've been seeing them around Instagram and a couple friends have mentioned having them as well. Leaves are falling, Autumn is calling ... also a Home Goods find! It's embarrassing how much I shop at that store! Are we all guilty of that? I sure hope so! Maybe I should expand my horizons at some point but that store is so darn handy and they always have an incredible variety of items.

Here is the other side of my built-ins which rarely gets photographed because of two reasons; first I never change the shelf which features the senior high school photos of our three children nor do I change the very first shelf with the wooden trough, and secondly the lighting on that side is horrible. All the natural light is coming in on the south side where the french doors are located and the opposite side of course is north and we all know what that means! Dark, dark, dark! Can we talk about the accent chair though?! I have been so much happier with the overall look of this room since replacing the chairs that I had here previously. The other chairs were a great design but the color of the fabric was too dark for my room. They have found a new home in our basement family room and the new chairs from LampsPlus have definitely brightened up the room and made pillow shopping much more fun! I think the chairs are the entire reason why the old pillows have found their way back into my life! The fabrics look beautiful together!

The added color, textures from the baskets and the jute rug as well as the solid white/off-white pumpkins mixed in with the rich hues of the velvet pumpkins, the blue throw and lastly the orange flowers on the hearth have propelled this room into a whole new dimension! If the fire is going then you must also have your favorite fall scent burning to create that total mood for those chilly autumn evenings. Turn down the lights, stoke the fire and light that candle! I will of course be wrapped up in my warmest throw with my fuzzy socks and sweat pants! I'm not kidding you, I hate to be cold. My entire body locks up and gets stiff!  Oh and if you're shopping for new candles, you have to try one of Rachel's candles! Shop Agape Candles at www.rachelraeliving.com and you will undoubtedly be hooked! Rachel mixes a perfect blend of essential oils to create the most beautiful fragrant soy candles. The Pomme Spice shown here, is one of her new fall scents for 2017.  It is fabulous! Even when not lit the aroma lingers around the room!  Get one, you can thank me later!

I like to add wood and iron details to my kitchen decor for the fall. It has an earthy feel and goes very well with our granite countertops. The granite is Giallo Ornamental. It's a very neutral granite and looks great with white or off-white cabinetry. It has a creamy background and touches of gray, taupe and dark brown. It truly is one of my favorite granite choices and I believe readily available and within an affordable price range. Our gas cooktop is made by Kitchen-Aid featuring the center griddle. I have fried hamburgers, made pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches on our griddle with ease however, since our children are gown now, my use for it has declined. Today I would opt for the 6 burners. But hey, you never know what life will bring your way when making these choices.

I think this style of marble looks beautiful mixed with the Giallo Ornamental granite in our kitchen. I've linked a smaller canister HERE. You can store sugar, spices, dried herbs or nothing at all. They are beautiful pieces to treasure for a lifetime in my opinion!

I may change out the centerpiece but at this point, I need to simply call it a day and wrap up this fall season of decorating and tweaking! It's a never-ending project with me sometimes! Our table is the 48" salvaged wood table from Restoration Hardware. I have found a slightly smaller table on Amazon with the exact same pedestal and almost half the price! Click HERE
